What is a hitch lock?

An unhitched trailer, unfortunately, is easy to steal. It is therefore important that an unhitched trailer or caravan is securely locked. The locks are specially designed to securely lock your trailer when it is not hitched to the vehicle. The lock obstructs the drawbar which prevents it from being coupled to a tow bar.
Hitch locks are usually available in three models:
  • Coupler lock model;
  • Tongue coupler model;
  • Coupling safe model.
Whichever model you choose, they all have the same function: covering the hitch so that the trailer cannot be coupled to the vehicle. Take a look at the AL-KO hitch locks.

How do I attach a hitch lock?

Fitting a hitch lock is very easy. Mount the lock directly over the coupling point of the trailer. This makes it impossible to connect the trailer to a vehicle.
After the lock has been placed over the hitch, it must be locked with a discus padlock. Our stocks include discus padlocks with keys and discus padlocks with number codes.
Please note: the lock should usually be removed before you can drive. We also stock a number of locks that do not need to be removed from the trailer while you are driving, this is useful if the trailer is parked a while later.
